In the year of 2006 I moved to South Africa for a year, a land that has fascinated me because of its history. During the time of my stay I became very surprised how strongly apartheid permeates the community where the white South Africans today are building walls around themselves. Through media we get surrounded with pictures that media creates and to find information regarding what?s happening in the world this is, most often, the primary source. Therefore I believe it?s interesting to explore how two different local newspapers from the county of Kalmar, with two different ideologies, present pictures of the same event, namely the Revolt of Soweto in 1976 and how these two newspapers relates to racial policies.

Over the past few years, singing has been identified as playing a crucial role in the struggle against apartheid. The aim of this study is twofold: firstly it presents a comprehensive discussion on how song is generally considered a tool of political mobilisation, secondly it discusses how that process can be applied to the ANC-gala. Consequently, the theoretical discussion constitutes the initial part of the study.

Ungernrevolten 1956 var en kort intensiv revolt som varade i tolv dagar där ungerska frihetskämpar revolterade emot det kommunistiska styret i landet En relativt lugn demonstration startad av ungerska studenter växte snabbt och ledde snart till en väpnad revolt emot den ungerskkommunistiska regimen. Några dagar av reformer mot ett liberalare ungerskt statsskick avbröts abrupt av de ryska trupperna som efter tolv dagar slog ned revolten och återtog makten i landet igen. Denna studie syftar att genom fem svenska dagstidningar med olika politiska tendens undersöka Ungernrevolten 1956 och hur den behandlades i de olika dagstidningarnas ledarartiklar. Ledarartiklarna analyseras med hjälp av Vedungs (1971) modell som används för att kartlägga politiska debatter. Resultatet visar att det finns klara skillnader mellan de olika tidningarna hur de presenterar revolten, man kan även se vissa samband till deras politiska inriktning..

Syftet med denna studie har varit att ta reda pa? vilka samha?lleliga faktorer som initierade det egyptiska upproret. Enva?ldsha?rskaren Mubarak hade styrt landet i 30 a?r fram till revolten 2011. Egypten hade sedan la?ng tid lidit under sva?ra ekonomiska och sociala fo?rha?llanden, da?r medborgarna saknade politiska ra?ttig- heter.

This study examines whether social media had an influence on the revolution in Egypt. Social media was an important tool for the revolution since the president Hosni Mubarak and the Egyptian regime strictly controls the media. However social media was not the determining factor for the revolution, the revolt evolved due to many underlying factors. Social media facilitated communication, made the mobilization effective and, spread information to the inhabitants and to the rest of the world. The authors are discussing this theme from the new institutionalism perspective, democracy- and revolutionary theories and based on six selected interview persons; activists, researchers and journalists..

This essay examines Finnish artist Iiu Susiraja?s self-portraits in relation to Western traditions and tropes of the genre from the 20th century until today. I use an iconological/iconographic model to describe and to further interpret the images. The purpose is to find out which norms and conventions, within the art sphere and society as a whole, that Susiraja?s images reproduce or revolt against.

During the 1960s and 1970s an increased interest in Native Americans can be seen in Sweden, e.g. through the establishment of organizations such as the Indian Club of Sweden. The aim of this thesis is to study the portrayal of Native Americans and its role through Albin Widén, a Swedish author, ethnologist and member of the Indian Club, and his non-fictional works on the Swedish migration to America, Swedish-America and Swedish contacts with Native Americans. The study is divided into four parts. The first part looks at the portrayal of the Native Americans in Widén?s writings, in comparison with Euro-Americans? and Europeans? traditional stereotypic images of a good and a bad Indian.

We have chosen an explorative case study design to highlight young people's revolt against parents and society and how society has dealt with social problems of youth and how those were perceived. ?Raggare? were considered a major social problem in society. The material in the study comes from eight qualitative interviews and literature of previous research of the current youth culture.

I Norrköpings lokala dagstidningar Folkbladet och Norrköpings tidningar har det under en period pågått en debatt kring förorten Hageby. Debatten har skapats av Folkpartiets medlemmar som hävdat att Hageby är på väg mot samma riktning som de franska förorterna. Med detta syftas det på händelsen då franska ungdomar från förorterna gjorde revolt och startade kravaller runt om i landet. Detta utspel har skapat en stor debatt i tidningarna. Hagbyborna och företrädare för Hageby så som föreningen Ditt Nya Hageby rasat mot uttalandet.

Den 1 januari 1994 reste sig Zapatistgerillan i en revolt och förklarade krig mot den mexikanska staten. Men ganska snabbt stod det klart att Zapatisterna inte var en vanlig gerilla. Efter 12 dagar slöts en vapenvila och det sägs att Zapatisterna inte avfyrat en kula sedan dess. Zapatisterna fick snabbt sympatier från hela världen och genom en seriös politisk agenda presenterade Zapatisterna sina krav och sina idéer om hur det demokratiska projektet kunde radikaliseras. Kampen för ett rättvist och inkluderande samhälle har allt sedan 1994 också bedrivits på ett globalt plan där man genom universella värden som frihet, demokrati och rättvisa utlyst behovet av en dynamisk global rörelse, för att infria dessa för alla världens marginaliserade och förtryckta grupper.

This study examines social workers' perceptions of their daily work with young people who abuse alcohol and drugs. The purpose of this study was to examine how social workers' perceptions are affected by gender and main drug of choice of activities for young people who abuse. Methodically the study was conducted with qualitative interviews with social workers active in youth substance abuse treatment. The study was carried out a review of previous research in relation to empirical data for the reason to have a discussion of possible explanations of social workers' perceptions and their daily work with young people who abuse alcohol and drugs. The results showed that social workers' perceptions of their daily work with young people are about attitude, reflection and development opportunities in the practical session with the youth.

Denna studie har som syfte att undersöka relationerna mellan musikanvändande, sociokulturell bakgrund, identitet och genus hos fyra kvinnor vars musikanvändande främst håller sig inom rockgenren. Materialet som ligger till underlag för undersökningen är kvalitativa forskningsintervjuer med dessa fyra kvinnor. För att analysera intervjusvaren används teoretiska perspektiv som utgår från tre teman gällande habitusbegreppet och den sociokulturella bakgrundens betydelse, genus samt musik och identitet. I studiens bakgrund presenteras också en mängd tidigare forskning för att ge en bred bild av ämnet.Resultatet visar att samtliga fyra kvinnor kommer ifrån landsorten och de är uppväxta i hem som är präglade av en stark arbetarkultur. Det är också i hemmet som kvinnorna mötte rockmusik första gången genom en manlig familjemedlem.

The essence of literature ? it?s voice, it?s meaning? has always been scrutinized of interest to readers and theorists. The language in itself has the power to revolt against and undermine current and dominant hierarchies. This language can also be of a passive nature, accepting existing norms and dichotomies. This paper has the ambition to examine the language, the voice, of Clarice Lispector in her novel A Hora da Estrela (The Hour of the Star).The theoretical horizon from which I will read The Hour of the Star is that of Hélène Cixous, which can be expressed through the term écriture féminine.
